Transformers are also used to change the level of an AC voltage to another level, such as reducing the AC Voltage from 220VAC to 12 VAC or increasing the Voltage from 110VAC to 220 VAC.

The working principle of the transformer is to work based on electromagnetic induction. The alternating input voltage that runs across the primer gives rise to magnetic fluxes which are ideally all connected to the secondary winding. This alternating flux induces an electromotive force (emf) in the secondary winding. If efficiency is perfect, all the power in the primary winding will be transferred to the secondary winding.
